About this room
The Citrus Theatre opened with a Black Tie Affair on January 17, 1941, and served as downtown Edinburg's entertainment and nightlife anchor for roughly fifty years - showing cinematic classics and, between them, the newsreels that brought Edinburg the attack on Pearl Harbor, the Battle of the Bulge, the Cuban Missile Crisis, Vietnam and the Civil Rights Movement. Then it went dark for more than three decades. Nick Cantu, an Edinburg developer and hometown native, spent five years bringing the 84-year-old building back, missing hoped-for openings in 2023 and 2024 before the theater held its grand reopening on May 1, 2025. It now runs as The Citrus Live: comedy, live music, wrestling, indie bands and touring headliners.
