About this room
The building started as a warehouse. German immigrant Max Krueger, a rancher, merchant, first local postmaster and justice of the peace, turned it into a dance hall in the 1870s, originally under the name Twin Sisters Hallen Verein, and named the place for two identical peaks visible in the nearby hills. He ran dances, imported beer from St. Louis, built a bowling alley next door, and eventually shut the hall down because of the brawls and shootouts. The drought of the mid-1890s bankrupted him and he left. In 1918 the owner then holding it, Henry Bruemmer, sold the hall to the Twin Sisters Hall Club for five dollars. It has been volunteer-run ever since, with a public dance on the first Saturday of every month.
