Class 3 — Motion Batching and Round Construction

Part of the Tools and Station school. Class 3 of 6.

The capability: you build a round by grouping and sequencing rather than in the order it was ordered.

Prerequisites: Modules 48, 49.

The practice

Take a six-drink round and build it in ticket order. Time it and taste the first drink.

Then build the same round grouped by build and sequenced by lifespan. Time it and taste the first drink.

Then do it twenty more times until the sorting happens before you notice you are doing it.

And practice the motion batch specifically: four glasses out, then iced, then poured — against four drinks built sequentially.

The reference

The two builds, side by side. The time difference and the first drink's condition.

What you are building

Two things, and they are separable.

The sorting reflex — grouping like builds before starting, which is cognitive and it becomes automatic within a few dozen rounds.

And the sequencing judgmentlongest-lived first, carbonated last, per Module 49, because a spirit-forward drink over a large cube built first is diluting the whole time the rest of the round is made.

Which is frequently the reverse of the order the guest said them in, and that reversal is the thing being built.

Verification and boundary

Taste the first drink from a round built each way.

Boundary: none specific.
