Mechanism

Vermouth is a fortified wine and oxidizes after opening, so refrigerate and date it. Cold temperature reduces ethanol heat and volatility; dilution integrates the drink and changes texture. Stir measured gin and fresh cold vermouth with hard ice, strain immediately into a frozen glass and apply a deliberate lemon or olive garnish.
