The drink is the invitation. The people are the culture.
Texas Bar Culture
Use familiar drinks to enter the larger story of working rooms, regional roots, music, dance, food, service, regulars, families, and preservation.
Six drinks. Six cultural doorways.
These are starting points, not claims that one formula represents all of Texas.
Participate respectfully
Do not stop at the recipe.
Notice who serves the drink, who taught the dance, who carries the sound system, who cooks, who protects the room, who returns every week, and who keeps the building standing. Support the people and the place instead of treating the culture as scenery.
Different dancehalls, honky-tonks, clubs, and community rooms carry different expectations.
Pay the cover, tip, support the band, order responsibly, and return.
Ask before photographing, honor boundaries, and do not perform a stereotype.
