Prep labeling and shelf life are the memory system of the bar. A label must identify the product, recipe version, production time, discard point and responsible worker; shelf life must come from ingredient risk, process and observed quality rather than a universal number copied across every bottle.

When and why to use the method

Execution sequence and service cues

  1. Label the clean empty container before or immediately after filling.
  2. Record actual production time, not the shift start or an estimated time.
  3. Store the product in its assigned temperature and light condition.
  4. Inspect and taste at defined intervals without returning test portions to the batch.
  5. Discard at the limit and document failures rather than relabeling or topping with fresh product.

Training and sign-off

Label six mock prep items with different production times and holding needs, then conduct a controlled hold test on one syrup or juice. The trainee must distinguish quality from safety, identify a deliberately ambiguous label and document the discard decision.
