Equipment family guide

Shaker and mixing tools

Mixing glasses, muddlers and related vessels must fit hand size, batch volume, ice and method. The tool should provide control without cracking, slipping or damaging ingredients; decorative weight and shape matter less than durability, cleanability and repeatable motion.

Shaker and mixing tools: working standard

The Shaker and mixing tools equipment standard covers job fit, rated capacity, safe setup, cleaning, maintenance and the defect that removes the tool from service.

Selection, capacity and installation decisions

  • Select mixing-glass capacity with enough headroom for the largest approved stirred build.
  • Choose a stable base, comfortable grip and rim that works with the house strainer.
  • Use food-safe muddlers with a face suited to herbs, fruit or sugar without splintering or trapping residue.
  • Keep glass mixing vessels away from thermal shock and retire chipped or cracked pieces immediately.
  • Provide enough identical tools that station swaps do not change technique and yield.

Equipment role and specification map

Commissioning, use and maintenance standard

  1. Inspect glass, rim, base and muddler surface before service.
  2. Load ingredients and ice within the vessel’s safe capacity.
  3. Hold the mixing glass securely and stir without striking the rim.
  4. Muddle with controlled pressure matched to the ingredient rather than grinding indiscriminately.
  5. Wash, sanitize and air-dry; store glass protected from impact and muddlers fully dry.

Performance and condition controls

Capacity

The vessel allows full movement without overflow.

Compatibility

Strainer and spoon work cleanly with the rim and shape.

Condition

No chip, crack, splinter or trapped residue is present.

Control

The tool supports the intended motion without excess force.

Equipment failure diagnosis

Overfilled glass

Ice and liquid crowd the rim and spill during stirring.

Thermal shock

Hot rinse meets a cold glass or vice versa.

Aggressive muddler

A toothed face shreds herbs and drives bitterness.

Tool mismatch

A strainer or spoon cannot seat or move correctly in the vessel.

Records that make the standard enforceable

  • Asset identity and assigned station
  • Commissioning or calibration result
  • Cleaning and preventive-maintenance log
  • Defect, repair and retirement decision

Training and sign-off

Stir a standard drink in two vessel sizes and muddle mint, citrus and sugar with two muddler faces. The trainee must choose the correct capacity and pressure, identify a retirement defect and complete safe wash and storage.
